Slave Narratives

You and your group will be researching creating a presentation on a slave that lived during the antebellum period/civil war period in the United States. Each group will be researching a different individual and may present the information on the person's life with either a powerpoint, a video or a website.

Within the medium you select to present the information, you and your group will include visual and audio pieces.

Visual media may include photographs of the person selected, photos of the area he/she lived in, visual representations of the conditions the individual lived in, photos of family members and of the slaveholder if available.

Audio media may include slave songs/spirituals, music of the period, oral narration of the person's life either by the individual or read by a member of your group.

Written material should be kept to a minimum. The story of the person's life should be told through pictures and audio primarily.

Please be sure to include the person's name, the slaveholder(s) if known, the place(s) of residence, when (if) the person was freed and the conditions and location of the person's life as a slave as well as life after freedom if applicable.
