New Policies

To assist you in developing superior study habits that will serve you through college and beyond, I am implementing the following new policies with the accompanying rationales:

1. Late Policy
The late policy in history classes will follow the established late policy in science classes.
Assignments are due in class at the beginning of class.
Assignments turned in anytime after that will incur a late penalty.
After the beginning of class but the same day- L1- minus 10% of score
Assignments turned in the next day- L3- minus 30% of score
Assignments turned in the following day- L5- minus 50% of score
Assignments turned in anytime thereafter- L7- minus 70% of score
Assignments due online will be due by midnight of the due date. After that time the L3, L5 and L7 designation will occur as applicable.

Rationale- Due dates matter. It is important to learn to provide work in a timely fashion. Penalties serve to encourage timeliness. The "always at least 30%" rule encourages students to do the work no matter how late it is as some points are better than no points.

2. Quiz/terms revision policy
We have previously had short quizzes for each chapter. We will be going to slightly longer tests/quizzes for each UNIT (comprised of 2-5 chapters). Additionally unscheduled/unannounced pop quizzes over reading will be implemented beginning immediately. Also, terms will be due at the end of each CHAPTER instead of each unit.

Rationale- Some students are leaving reading until right before the chapter quizzes and are not prepared for class activities. Pop reading quizzes will help to encourage those students who need the motivator of a quiz to do regular reading. Terms are also being left until the night before they are due, creating undue amount of work on that particular night. By doing terms more often, students will have a better grasp of the important topics in the era of history being discussed.
